The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, and Tongmyong University in South Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote research, staff and student exchange programmes, and other academic collaborations.

The Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) Professor Daniel Duah explained that earlier discussions with Tongmyong University laid the foundation for the collaboration. He added that the purpose of the visit was to consolidate these engagements.
“Recently we have been engaging Tongmyong University who are very keen on having a lasting presence in Africa, and we are ready to sign the MoU that will guide the partnership on mobility, scholarships, and joint research,” he said.

The delegation from Tongmyong University was led by Mr. Kang Kyung Su, Chairman of the Tongmyong Foundation. He was accompanied by Prof. Eshetu Tefera Bekele, Professor at Busan International College of Global Business, and Mr. Dennis Kim, Marketing Manager at the Office of International Affairs.
Mr. Kang noted that the relationship would be developed in stages and expressed Tongmyong University’s excitement to embark on the partnership. He emphasised the importance of preparing students for global integration as a foundation for the collaboration’s success.
“We will work very hard to teach our students global integration and inclusion so we can grow together as an institution,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson assured the delegation of the university’s readiness to embrace the partnership.
“You are in the right place, in the right institution. At KNUST, we are not just training professionals for Ghana alone but international professionals. And when we are training international professionals, then we need to open up to mutually beneficial collaborations,” she stated.
She emphasised the KNUST’s openness to such engagements both institutions to remain committed and to deliver tangible results from the MoU.
